Biography

Asha Mohamud Yusuf known as “Asha Luul” is a leading Somali poet, whose work has gained international recognition. In 2018, her book, Tahriib, The Sea Migrations, was named Poetry Book of the Year 2018 by the Sunday Times.

Asha Luul left Somalia during the onset of the civil war in 1990 and has since been living in the UK. Using a mix of both classical and contemporary poetry, she addresses a wide range of topics, including conflict, women, peace, the diaspora and migration, which resonate with both the older and younger generations at home and abroad.

In addition to appearing on and hosting TV shows, Asha Luul engages her audience through her own Youtube channel and social media sites.
